Solving problems the leftist way

Posted by MK on July 1, 2008

Times Online – The Government’s attempt to reduce alcohol-related disorder by introducing 24-hour drinking has failed dismally, according to a survey. Seven out of ten police authorities, primary care trusts and councils believe that the number of alcohol-related incidents has risen or stayed the same, a report from the Local Government Association shows. When the laws to extend drinking hours were introduced in November 2005, ministers argued that the aim was to promote a café culture and reduce disorder after last orders when everyone emerged on to the streets at 11pm. The LGA survey suggests that nearly one in three primary care trusts has reported an increase in alcohol-related incidents. Half of police authorities report that the Act has merely resulted in the incidents occurring later in the night.

In addition, more than three quarters of health authorities have felt that they have had to spend more, largely owing to a rise in accident and emergency admissions, while council tax payers have paid £100 million to administer the new regulations. [snip] The LGA report also shows the financial strain on councils, hospitals and other local services. When the licensing laws were changed, Tessa Jowell, then the Culture Secretary, said: “The reason that we are moving to more flexible licensing hours is because of all the evidence that crime and disorder is at its peak at chucking-out time. [snip] The survey of 30 police forces showed that crimes between 3am and 6am were up by 22 per cent, with more than 10,000 extra offences being committed during those hours.

But, but Britain has tough gun and knife control laws, so it’s alright, they can deal with 10,000 extra offenses, since they don’t involve any nasty guns and knives right. Wrong, read the whole article if you like, because of this their town centers become virtual no-go zones on Fridays and Saturdays. It’s amazing how leftists think. You have a problem of alcohol fueled violence and their solution is to allow pubs and bars to stay open even longer so you know, people can drink even more alcohol. In some weird, loony way to the lefties running Britain, allowing more alcohol to be consumed is simply not going to make the problem of ALCOHOL-fueled violence even worse, really.

They only way to deal with this problem of violence and binge drinking is to make those doing it actually pay for the consequences, jail them, dock their pay, sell their possessions etc or in simpler terms, make them take responsibility for their actions. Alternatively I’d give the British guns and let them head over to the local friday night no-go zone and sort out the trash, I’ve never experienced it, but I’m sure that flaming hot lead in the ass can be quite sobering. Anything else and you’ll just be waffling and weaseling around the problem while the taxpayer picks up the tab [£100 million], as usual. One last thing, what the hell is a ‘Culture Secretary’?

Great post as usual, MK. I like this commonsense advice:
They only way to deal with this problem of violence and binge drinking is to make those doing it actually pay for the consequences, jail them, dock their pay, sell their possessions etc or in simpler terms, make them take responsibility for their actions.

If only ordinary people were running the country, we might be able to clean the streets up a little!
As for a ‘culture secretary’, the mind boggles. Another question might be, I wonder what the culture secretary gets paid for dreaming up stupid ideas like fueling the louts with more alcohol. I wonder if anyone ever told him that a ‘cafe culture’ is based around a different substance, hot, brown and made by an Italian barista. Er, that’s culture 101…LOL
