Leave Clarkson alone!

Posted by MK on May 28, 2008

Daily Mail – The BBC faced calls to sack Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson after he admitted driving at an incredible 186mph on a public road. Clarkson, who has often been accused of glamorising speed, confessed to driving almost 120mph over the national speed limit. The 48-year-old presenter made the comments in a frank interview at the Hay Festival. [snip]

His comments last night drew a furious reaction from road safety groups who called for him to be sacked by the BBC. Mary Williams, chief executive of Brake, said: ‘Jeremy Clarkson is extremely offensive and irresponsible. [snip] ‘He is the most appalling role model for our next generation of drivers. [snip] ‘We have come to expect these tediously boring comment from Clarkson because he is like a dreadful stuck record.’

So Jeremy Clarkson drove at a mind-boggling 186mph on a public road! We’re constantly told that speed kills, speed kills, you need to drive like a gaggle of sheep, go as slow as possible, take hours and hours of tedious driving to get where you’re going, speed always kills, no safe speeding. Yet how come Jeremy didn’t end up in a ball of violent flames when he hit 60mph over the speed limit? How come he didn’t die and ball-busting narcs like Mary Williams aren’t gloating over the passing of that appalling role model for the next generation of sheep? The narcs amongst us hate people like him because they push the envelop on Top Gear and make driving fun, they probably hate that Top Gear is testosterone filled and hasn’t filled some effing equal opportunities quota.

I love watching Top Gear, I don’t care that Clarkson was belting along in a fine piece of motoring machinery because I don’t believe that every driver out there is a moron and all cars are engineered exactly the same. Just because you drove all your life to the shops and back and never had an accident, it doesn’t make you a safer/better driver than the fellow who races every weekend and has the odd ticket. Some might think that all cars are the same, they’re not, some are built to handle speeds most of us will never drive at and be quite safe at them. There’s a reason why nobody would watch safe pansies like Mary Williams pottering along in a Bentley/Ferrari [setting all the politically correct examples she wants] if she were to conduct programs like Top Gear, so leave Clarkson alone.

Anything that pisses the cardigan-wearing leftist killjoys off just has to be a Good Thing.

I say we should have more fast, safe drivers like Clarkson on the road! Beats the drones travelling at 20 kilometres under the speed limit ;)
