Americans get it

Posted by MK on March 5, 2008

World Net Daily – Arizona lawmakers hope to stem the wave of unarmed students killed in campus slayings through a plan that would let adults carry firearms onto the grounds of the state’s universities. “The police got to both the Virginia Tech murder scene and the New Life Church [in Colorado] in about six minutes,” noted Larry Pratt, the chief of Gun Owners of America. “At Virginia Tech, 30 people died. At New Life, two died in the parking lot and once the bad guy got inside the building he was engaged by (armed) security team volunteers and nobody else died. In fact, he was finished in about 30 seconds.” That, he said, ought to illustrate the issue as clear as anything. Pratt noted that Utah and several local jurisdictions scattered around the U.S. already allow people with a license to carry their weapons onto campuses. Ignatius Piazza, founder and director of the Frontsight Firearms Training Institute, said he was committing to provide every Arizona school teacher with a $2,000 handgun course, free of charge, at the time the plan is approved. Hat tip Word For It…

In other words, when the bad guys go in to a couple of places and shoot people, more Americans get angry and reach for the Glock, the Mossberg, the Smith & Wesson etc. Their response – we’re sick and tired of these sons of bitches shooting people up, it’s time to fight back, get guns, learn to use them and be prepared, you going down scumbags! That is why America is free and America can stand on her own two feet. Whoever the baddies are, if they ain’t stupid they’ll know, if you manage to get past the Army, the Airforce, the Navy, the Marines, the National Guard, the Marshals, the FBI, the Sheriffs, the Cops, the security guards, don’t bother pausing to catch your breath, cos you still have to face the ordinary armed American. Contrast that to us down under.

Courier Mail – As part of a plan to offer free self-defence courses, the Lord Mayor tested out the merits of the new policy. Under the Liberal proposal, City Hall will budget about $425,000 a year to offer free self-defence classes with qualified professionals in parks around Brisbane. Cr Newman said many women had lobbied him to provide the classes in the wake of a spate of sexual assaults on Brisbane bikeways last year. “It’s not just about self-defence aspects, it’s also about giving people self-confidence,” the Lord Mayor said. He said he would also install more distance markers on footpaths around Brisbane and expand the city’s CCTV network.

In America, they’ll tell you to go and get a gun, help you learn to use it, and let you defend yourself. In Australia, if you’re lucky, they’ll give you a some empty-handed self-defense course to boost your confidence and install more CCTV cameras to keep an eye on you. I sincerely hope the women who attend these things doesn’t become over-confident because I’ve done martial arts for a few years. It takes a long time for the average person to become proficient in it and even then you are at a significant disadvantage if your attacker is armed. In most cases the woman will be weaker than her attacker and he’ll be armed with something while she is unarmed. The great equalizer is the handgun, unfortunately more of us would run screaming from the room at the mere sight of a gun or cringe when such nasty items are brought up.

Hell even a proficient female martial artist still has the odds against her when facing off with a man.
