Thank You John Howard

LiveNews – Federal Treasurer Wayne Swan has called an end to the previous Howard government policy of returning excess budget surpluses as tax cuts. Instead, any windfall revenue would by allowed to mount up as a larger budget surplus and would be quarantined either with the Reserve Bank or the Future Fund.
I remember when the Howard tax cuts were spurned as the pie and chips cut or was it the burger cut, either way the whiners were whining that the tax cuts were too small. I remember telling people back then that $5 extra a week is still better than nothing. Australians were warned about all this prior to the election, so after the next tax cut in June/July, you’d better be prepared to make the most of all the glorious tax cuts coming after that, grand sums of zero dollars and zero cents, yay!!! Perhaps Aussies don’t like getting paid extra for the work they do or something, perhaps they like paying tax.
Thanks for what you let us keep Mr. Howard. Folks like me save every extra cent we get and work hard for them, it’s to be expected with a leftie government though, punishing those who work harder than the rest. They never see a tax cut as taking less of your money, they see it as giving you extra money, which is a bad thing, go figure. Fortunately for them, it appears most of us feel the same way. Oh and if the price of petrol, groceries, interest rates and everything else keeps going up as the ‘War against Inflation’ fades into memory, then that’s really sad and all that but the thieves running the joint won’t be easing up on you.

The opposition should be howling, but they’re not. Not sure that the “centrist” B.Nelson is up to it…

The opposition won’t object to this unless they want to be shown up as the economic illiterates they are. Providing tax cuts to the Australian economy during a time of rising inflation would be the height of economic irresponsibility.
That the Howard government did this repeatedly only goes to show how hollow their claims of ’superior economic management’ were. It also explains why inflation has been steadily rising for the past four years.

Actually the opposition are rightly saying tax cuts should not be withheld from us. It is after all our money, i don’t see how people like me should be punished because other people are spending too much.
If they really wanted to curb inflation, then encourage people to save. You can’t get people to save more if you won’t give them anything to save.
Oh just go away clubwah, if you don’t like what i write, just don’t read it, i don’t care.

Either the general public spends their own money or the govt does. What is the govt going to do with the money – invest it in the stock market? They sure don’t need it to pay of $96bn debt.

I wouldn’t mind them investing some of the surplus into roads and water recycling or helping our farmers out but given the track record of the fools in NSW i don’t trust leftist to build a shed, let alone run a country.

And So the historical (or should that be hysterical) revisionism begins.

Are my eye’s deceiving me or is a person with the economic philosophies of the left seriously trying to criticise the last Government? The last Government that came into office to find a 96 BILLION dollar black hole in its finances. 96 BILLION dollars that ate in to its operating budget. 96 BILLION dollars that they paid off and kept the budget in surplus for 10 years of their last 11. What a shame that the ALP now has to pay off 96 BILLION dollars as they take over the reigns. Oh wait, they don’t because they have a thriving economy, record low unemployment and surplus budgets to throw in to their pet projects.
It will be fun to see how long they take to bugger it up though. I have a bet with a mate that they will be one termers. Seriously, I wouldn’t let Wayne Swann in charge of a pie van and expect to turn a profit.

Actually it doesn’t you ignorant idiot. It does nothing of the sort as anyone with the feeblest understanding of economic principle could attest. Bugger off back to your hole Mondo, the adults are talking.

Well Todd – that post was heavy on the abuse but unfortunately light on analysis or reason.
WHY is it responsible to deliver tax cuts during a time of rising inflation, as you seem to believe? Are you able to set out a rational basis for rejecting my economic argument in this regard?
Also – WHY is it incorrect to attribute our current inflationary problems, at least in part, to Howard Government tax cuts over the past several years? Do you have a theory as to how Howard’s tax cuts were not inflationary?
But look – don’t feel obliged to engage in reasoned or rational discussion if you don’t want to. You should feel perfectly comfortable ignoring the above questions and simply engaging in more mindless abuse.

Duh, because it takes pressure off wage claims.

Well Mondo, considering the fact your “economic argument” as you so quaintly put it was written with a crayon on a piece of butchers paper, I don’t think I will trouble your fragile little mind with trying to explain. We are both neither young enough. And from your writing I am assuming you are no more than 12.
Ar beat me to the punch, however, I would just say to you. The basis of international monetary policy is the general interaction of all factors. Not some, not most, but ALL. The theory that the federal government can do much more than fiddle at the edges, is akin to the idea that Australia reducing its greenhouse gasses by anything at all will do ANYTHING to combat the false god of AGW. All the Fed Govt can do is manage the local economy, maintain the overall position and try to reduce the impact on the Australian population. The coalition was VERY good at this, as they were not only able to manage the finances of the nation on a day to day basis, but they had built up the level of professional respect enjoyed by rational governments, to the point that Australian Banks did not increase rates above the Reserve Bank rate of increase. Regardless of Asian Flu problems, economic meltdowns in the tiger economies and Sept 11th.
What do you think the banks think of Swanny?
However, I digress, your pack of looney tunes infesting the Lodge has nothing but platitudes and do not have the respect of grade 10 economics students, let alone professional banks. As I said in a different post, the ALP is a very slow moving car crash waiting to happen. What a shame that we will be the innocent bystanders that get caught up in the carnage.

Well, since you mention “mindless abuse” Mondo………..
You’re a fucking idiot lefty (but repeat myself) with nothing better to do than slither into other people’s blogs and leave your foul droppings all over them.
Todd and ar just handed you your ass on a platter and you’re too goddam thick to realise it.
Give up, sonny–you’re an embarassment even to your own side of politics, something I’d have thought impossible.
